<b>Title: </b>Disability Sports training for group volunteers <br><b>Description: </b>Disability Sport Northern Ireland facilitated an inclusive games training session in Taghnevan Youth and Community Centre in Lurgan on Wednesday 25th August for workers and volunteers dealing with older people and those with disabilities.  The session was kindly funded by the SHSCT through their neighbourhood renewal/health and well-being programme.  The session was well attended and we all learned new ways of including everyone in our physical activity sessions.

Older Peoples Group provides an important support network and social outlet for many residents of the Borough of Craigavon.  The HOP workers are aware that funding remains a key issue for these groups and are determined to support groups access opportunities.

Option 1

Contact either Neil or Kathy on 02838 392777 and arrange form them to visit your club to assist you develop a programme of activities or to review your funding application.

Option 2

Contact either Neil or Kathy on 02838 392777 and arrange to visit CNC to access Grant-Tracker, which is the only website dedicated to helping the voluntary and community sector in Northern Ireland to fundraise.

·     -Grant Tracker provides information on all the funding sources available to voluntary and community organisations.

·     -Grant Tracker provides a range of online tools for tracking down funds to support an enormous range of good causes.

·     -Grant Tracker helps funding specialists in advising others.

Allen Lane Foundation

The foundation make grants to organizations whose work the

Trustees believe to be unpopular e.g. older people, ethnic

minority communities or those experiencing mental health

problems.  Grants are available to voluntary not-for

profit organizations (which need not be registered charities,

provided the work carried out is charitable).  Grants are

relatively modest and range from £500 to £15,000 and can be

used for costs such as Volunteers or participants expenses,

venue hire/ Part-time or sessional staffing cost and work aimed

at strengthening the organisation.

Grants are awarded to allow people to take part in art, sport,

heritage and community activities, and projects that promote

education, the environment and health in the local community.

Applicants must be not for profit organisations with a

governing document or set of rules which you have adopted

and a bank or building society account in the name of your

organisation.Grants generally will range from £500 - £10,000

and application forms are downloadable from the website.

 

Community Foundation NI Community Arts www.communityfoundationni.org

The scheme is to support grassroots arts initiatives that foster 'a shared future'.  Participants should be involved in planning the project, only small scale projects will be considered, applicant organisations should have a constitution or be linked to a constituted organisation and the project must be carried through within one year of being offered funding. Generally grants will range from £500 - £1000.

 

Esme Mitchell Trust                          

This trust funds general charitable purposes in Ireland as a

whole but principally in Northern Ireland. It has a

particular interest in heritage, culture and the arts.

Generally grants will range from low hundreds to low

thousands of pounds.

 

Tesco Charity Trust

This trust seeks to support local projects whose work supports the welfare of older people and people with disabilities based in areas where Tesco has stores. Grants generally range from £1,500 to £5,000.  The first step is to write to the Tesco Charity Trust with brief details of your project. This will ensure that your request is recorded on the current year's database and included in the distribution of application forms.

This scheme aims to enable local community and voluntary groups to develop a locally based physical activity programme targeted at those people who are least physically active.  Projects must meet one of the following objectives: Overcoming barriers, Acquiring new skills, Promoting health benefits or Promoting local facilities.  Grants available are up to £500 and are available once a year.

 

Katherine Howard Foundation

The Katharine Howard Foundation is an independent grant

making foundation, whose key function is the provision of

small, easily accessible grants to community based groups

throughout Ireland, North and South. The foundation supports

older peoples projects that are community based and that have

been designed and are to be managed by older people. 

Grants are normally once off and range between 500 - 2,500

Euro.

 

Lord and Lady Lurgan Trust

This trust seeks to support Older people and the arts, in the UK with particular attention paid to N Ireland. Applications from registered charities are welcome all year round and grants are relatively modest ranging from £1,000 to £5,000.

 

St Stephens Green Trust

This Trust seeks applications which focus on pioneering initiatives which: a) seek to reduce the vulnerability of older people not in contact with groups; b) increases integration into or back into society especially linking up with rights and entitlements; c) uses intergenerational contact and solidarity initiatives as a way of reducing isolation; d) gives attention to older men in isolation; e) seeks to combat rural isolation; f) promotes community-based visitation initiatives; g) uses forms of communication technology to combat isolation.  Grants are in the range from 500 to 15,000 euros.

 

Community Foundation NI: Telecommunity

Telecommunity funds work in the community with the older persons or people with disabilities.  Projects do not need to be new or particularly innovative, but its programme must be clearly thought out and show that it will be managed by the user group.  The fund is keen to support initiatives that help to develop community education and training opportunities, communication and leadership skills, local initiatives to improve resources and community facilities, creativity and self expression through drama, music or a range of arts activities. Grants are usually under £1,000 at present with rare exceptions up to £3,000.

Description: Ballyoran Over 50s visited Carnfunnock Country Park on Wednesday 11th August, as part of their tour of the north COast and the Causeway. The group had a fantastic time and made a trip that was only possible due to the SHSCT, Neighbourhood Renewal Programme of Health and Well-being for Older People.
