HOP Project Planning
The Helping Older People project within the Community Network Craigavon has worked closely with several groups to plan projects for 2008. The groups involved are volunteer led and need support with their year programmes. It is hoped that some of the benefits from these project plans would be a raised group confidence, more interest and better understanding of the creative planning process, leading to further relevant projects that would be managed by the individual groups.
Facilitators were identified to assist with the project planning and groups recalled past successes and discussed what they would be interested in, this assisted in completing a full and varied programme of activities for the groups involved. After the planning process it was necessary for groups to apply for funding with the help of the HOP workers.
The following projects have been funded by Craigavon - Arts in Motion, Grant Aid Programme, through Craigavon Borough Council. Four of the projects are working in partnership with Artscare co-ordinator, Jill McKeown.

Title: Intergenerational Project concludes Description: This week saw the conclusion of an intergenerational project facilitated by the Helping Older People’s Project. The project entitled ‘Strictly Trash Fashion’ was an initiative between The Drumgor Detached Youth Work Project, a local program seeking to combat the social exclusion of all young people aged between 10-18 years in the Drumgor and Drumgask areas of Brownlow, and Age Concern Drumgor, a local older people’s club which seeks to provide social, recreational and educational opportunities for the older residents in the same area. The Helping Older People’s Project secured funding from the Local Community Fund with the assistance of the Arts Development Team within Craigavon Borough Council who was also keen to foster real understanding between people of different ages and to enable joint learning and the exchange of experience, skills and knowledge between older and younger people. The project proved to be a real success and the workers are grateful to everyone who played a part.
