HOP - Promoting Benefits Uptake

The Department of Social Development estimates that as many as 49% of older people could be failing to claim the Pension Credit they are entitled to and as many as 22% are could be failing to claim Housing Benefit.  Poverty is a fact of life for many older people with a proportionately higher number of them living on a low income than any other age group and the link between poverty and poor health has been well etablished.

To ensure that local older people are aware of their entitlements, workers from the HOP project have been liaising closely with Access 2 Benefits (A2B).  A2B is a not-for-profit organisation based in Belfast which uses an online questionnaire to both help older people across Northern Ireland maximise their take-up of benefit entitlements and to identify other benefits which are not dependent on income. In an attempt to raise the uptake of benefits across the Borough of Craigavon the HOP workers have organised a number of events for the coming months.  Please regularly return to this web-page as we hope to offer this service in further communities in the coming months.

Benefit Uptake Events

An A2B Benefits check can be conducted with the Helping Older People Project worker. Contact Kathy 028 3839 2777 to make an appointment.
